Nick Markakis ripped 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the St. Paul Saints defeated
the Tombstone Huckleberries by a score of 7 to 5 at SAFECO Field.
Markakis provided much of the offense. He bombed a two-run dinger in the 1st
inning and popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 7th of the season) in
the 3rd inning. Both teams ended up with 10 hits on the afternoon.
The victory was credited to Jason Marquis(5-5) who went 8 and 1/3 innings,
allowing 5 runs. Marquis got help from Salomon Torres who earned his 5th
save. Derek Lowe(7-7) was the losing pitcher. He served up 3 gopher balls
in 6 innings.
'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but I thought it
was nothing.' Marquis said. 'I was lucky I got a win because I couldn't put
the ball where I wanted it.'
